The NBA season is in full swing, and the Golden State Warriors are running away with the Western Conference. But after a recent loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, the team’s star forward Kevin Durant had a surprising response when asked about how he felt about his team’s chances for this year.

The addition of Kenny Golladay to the New York Giants’ offense this summer was great news for Daniel Jones and the rest of the unit. In 2020, the Giants were coming off yet another dismal season and needed someone to help them regain their scoring prowess.
In free agency, Golladay was probably the best wide receiver available. Even though it cost $72 million, the Giants made a big acquisition.
While the Giants have spent the whole of the summer talking up their new-look offense, Golladay (and presumably other members of the franchise) don’t anticipate a quick start.
The New York Giants offense is expected to start slowly, according to Kenny Golladay.

During a recent press conference with Giants reporters, Golladay brought up the fact that a number of important offensive players had missed crucial practice time this summer. He expects the team’s first few games to be marred by a lack of familiarity.
“I get thrilled when I look in the huddle and see all those guys.” However, players have come and gone from the starting lineup. “We may be a bit late getting off,” Golladay said (Ralph Vacchiano).
In Detroit, Golladay spent the first four years of his NFL career receiving Matthew Stafford’s throws. He’s never had to deal with the steep learning curve that comes with signing with a new club as a free agent. In addition, Golladay has been out since August 3 due to a hamstring ailment.
To make things worse, Golladay isn’t the only important Giants player who has missed crucial practice time this summer.

Pro Football Talk emphasizes how hampered the Giants’ offense has been this summer in a follow-up article on Golladay’s comments:
Wideouts Darius Slayton, Kadarius Toney, and John Ross — who is now on injured reserve — all missed time. After tearing his ACL, Saquon Barkley has been eased back into practice, while tight ends Evan Engram and Kyle Rudolph have also battled with injuries.
Golladay believes the group has a lot of promise, but he admitted on Thursday that having so little time to work together in camp may lead to a difficult start to the season.

For the last two years, Darius Slayton has been one of Daniel Jones’ favorite targets. Along with Golladay, the Giants added Kadarius Toney, a first-round selection, and John Ross, a free agent. The team’s starting tight ends are Evan Engram and Kyle Rudolph, while Saquon Barkley, of course, is hoping to rebound after missing most of 2020 due to injury.
Golladay is entirely right. The Giants’ offense will suffer as a result of so many important players missing practice. It’s to be anticipated that things will get off to a sluggish start, which is even worse news.
The Giants and Kenny Golladay can’t afford to get out to a poor start.
With so many injuries, it’s reasonable to anticipate a sluggish start, but the harsh truth is that Golladay and the Giants can’t afford to fail right away.
Their first six games are very difficult. It included games against the New Orleans Saints, the Los Angeles Rams, and two divisional rivals (Washington Football Team, Dallas Cowboys).
If the Giants want to avoid starting the season as the NFC East’s laughingstock, they’ll have to put their summer woes behind them and come out fire.
