Gaudio began his coaching career as an assistant at Army, where he remained for five seasons. He then served as an assistant under P.J. Carlesimo with the Seton Hall Pirates for four seasons. In 1995, Gaudio joined Pitino’s staff at the University of Louisville, where he served as an assistant for twelve seasons.

In 2007, Gaudio was hired as the head men’s basketball coach at Wake Forest, replacing Skip Prosser who had died suddenly of a heart attack. In his three seasons at Wake Forest, Gaudio compiled a record of 63–59 (.516).

In 2010, Louisville Assistant Coach Kevin Keatts was hired as head coach of Hargrave Military Academy, leaving a vacancy on Pitino’s staff. Keatts was replaced by Gaudio, who returned to Louisville after a three-year absence.

Gaudio says that he fell into coaching by accident. “I really just sort of stumbled into it,” he says. “I started out working summer camps because I needed a job to help pay for school. And then I just sort of worked my way up the ladder.”

Now, Gaudio is the head coach at Wake Forest University, a position he has held for 10 years. He has led the team to two NCAA Tournament appearances and one trip to the Sweet Sixteen.
