Luka Dončić and Kristaps Porziņģis are two of the most talented players in the NBA. They have been playing together for years, but their relationship has become a topic of conversation recently.
The kristaps porzingis is the two-time defending champion of the Euroleague and a fan favorite in Europe. Luka Dončić is an NBA rookie who has been playing for the Dallas Mavericks.
Kristaps Porziis joined the Dallas Mavericks in January 2019 and has had an erratic career so far. Luka Doni is the betting favorite to win NBA MVP this season, but he has allegedly been dissatisfied with Porziis at times. Porziis, on the other hand, has resented his position in the Dallas offense. Despite this, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is sure that the two will become fast friends.
Cuban claimed he had a definite way of knowing Doni and Porziis have a good connection during a recent visit on a Dallas radio station. This statement follows the big Latvian’s reported strip club visit during the playoffs last season. According to accounts, Luka was not pleased. Though he was presumably less happy with KP-6’s on-court disappearance.
Luka Doni and Kristaps Porziis had a complex relationship.
Luka Doni has been a phenomenon in Dallas from the minute he arrived. Since then, the NBA Rookie of the Year has added two All-NBA seasons. After winning the youngest EuroLeague MVP in history with Real Madrid in 2018, he arrived with a lot of hype. However, Doni has averaged 28.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 8.7 assists per game over the past two seasons, putting the naysayers to rest.
Before injuring his ACL in January 2018, Kristaps Porziis was a rising star with the New York Knicks. He was out for the remainder of the season and the whole 2018–19 season while recuperating. The Knicks traded him to the Mavericks at that time.
Since his comeback, his statistics seem to be in good shape: 20.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game. His shooting was poor in 2019–20 (42.7 percent overall, 35.2 percent from 3-point range), but he improved to 47.6 percent and 37.6 percent last season.
Porziis, on the other hand, disappeared in Dallas’ seven-game first-round defeat to the Los Angeles Clippers last season. He averaged 13.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, and less than a block a game while shooting 47.2 percent overall and just 8-of-27 from deep range (29.6 percent). You lose when your second star puts up statistics like that.
And Dallas did it despite Doni’s 35.7 points, 10.3 assists, and 7.9 rebounds per game, which might have led to a lawsuit for lack of support. That is basically how the Mavericks became the first club in NBA history to win three games on the road in a best-of-seven series and then lose.
Cuban feels self-assured since they really ‘like’ one other.

During an interview on 97.1 The Eagle, Cuban claimed he had a “telltale indication” that Luka Doni and Kristaps Porziis’ relationship was shaky. Because Cuban is extremely active on social media, he already knew all he needed to know.
That’s right: since Doni and Porziis were “liking” one other’s social media postings, Cuban assumed that their relationship was strong. SI.com’s Grant Afseth covered the radio appearance.
A different voice in the Dallas locker room may have a bigger impact than Luka or Porziis clicking the “Like” button. The on-court chemistry between the two stars has to be fixed, according to new head coach Jason Kidd.
Porziis has to make defenders pay for overplaying Doni, something he hasn’t done well in the past two seasons. Cool Hand Luka will have more chances to do what he does best, which is create for others, if The Unicorn can become a genuine second star.
What are the chances? If that occurs, kids may enjoy playing together as much as they like interacting on social media.
What happens this season will determine the future of Luka Doni and Kristaps Porziis’ relationship.
Luka Doni, as good as he has been so far in his career, has the same amount of playoff series wins as Cade Cunningham, the first overall selection in the 2021 NBA Draft. Kristaps Porziis has the same amount of series victories on his CV as well.
The combo of a 6-foot-7 point guard and a 7-foot-3 stretch big with a delicate touch could be dangerous. Dallas has failed to achieve postseason success for a number of reasons. The club made a commitment to Doni over the summer, signing him to a maximum five-year, $207 million contract. Luka is the Mavericks’ man for the foreseeable future, unless he pulls a Ben Simmons.
Porziis signed a five-year, $158.3 million contract extension with the Mavs in July 2019, which includes a $36 million player option for 2023–24.
Despite what Cuban may believe, Luka Doni and Kristaps Porziis have two seasons to show Dallas how far they can go. In the end, what occurs on the court will have a far greater impact on how much the two like one other than social media tea leaves.
