Thompson has been the face of poor luck for the last two years. He’s been eager to get back on the floor since that terrifying Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals.
Thompson suffered a hamstring injury in Game 3 of the series against the Toronto Raptors. In Game 4, he returned, but the destruction started in Game 6. By the halfway point of the third quarter, Thompson had poured in 30 points and hauled down five rebounds before suffering a knee injury.
Thompson was sidelined for the 2019-20 season after suffering an ACL rupture in his knee. Thompson tore his Achilles tendon during a practice in November 2020, causing him to miss the whole 2020-21 season.
At Monday’s media day, Thompson, dressed in his Warriors jersey, expressed his excitement to see some light at the end of the tunnel.
During the Golden State Warriors media day, he told reporters, “It feels amazing to put this jersey on.” “It feels wonderful to be on the court, and it feels even better to be on the court.” “Unbelievable, unbelievable, unbelievable.”

Thompson demonstrated his excellent physical condition and ability to move around during the Warriors media day session. He’s ecstatic, but he recognizes that it’s not the same as what he has to accomplish on the court.
“That’s one thing to be able to do it in an NBA game with some of the greatest athletes in the world,” he said. “However, I’m looking forward to it. Just to be able to walk, run, and leap again is a miracle. When you’ve had the injuries I’ve had, you take it for granted.
“All I want to do tomorrow is play with the squad and go up and down. That’ll be an enjoyable day.”
His patience has been put to the test over the last two years.
He said, “You have to be patient with your body.” “Your mind knows you can accomplish things you’ve always done, but the human body may sometimes break a ligament or two. It takes a long time to get back on your feet. You have to be like water and let your frustrations wash over you.”
