Atlanta Falcons supporters would probably prefer to remember Michael Vick is a football player that is well-known’s time in the NFC South for his explosive running abilities and cannon arm at this point in the game. As contrast to how things ended up with a dogfighting ring and a jail term.
Despite his on-field achievements in Atlanta, the four-time Pro Bowl quarterback can only look back gratefully on his time with the Falcons without considering what could have been.

It wouldn’t be accurate to state that the Vick era in Atlanta came to a close with a bang. A 23-month jail term for his role in a dogfighting operation seems much more like a nuclear weapon.
Fans have long speculated about what could have occurred if Vick had used better judgment and stayed with the Falcons. Would he have led the club to a Super Bowl win in the end? Furthermore, if Vick had stayed in Atlanta, where would Matt Ryan, the third overall selection in the 2008 NFL Draft, have ended up?
Vick acknowledged in a 2012 interview with the NFL Network that when he thinks back on his time in Atlanta, he also plays the what-if game. He isn’t concerned simply by the dogfighting controversy and the financial difficulties that led to his bankruptcy.
Vick stated to NFL Total Access that year that he believes the club would have been more successful if he had spent more time studying the playbook.
“[I] would have most likely already had a ring on my finger. But that’s a simple statement to make. Any team need 11 players on offense, defense, and special teams who can put it all together. However, I believe I could have made a more valuable contribution…. Perhaps if I had invested more time in my trade, I could have accomplished more.”

During Vick’s six seasons with the Falcons, the club went 47-48-1. In Atlanta, he won 38 of his 67 starts.
Vick’s decision to let his ability speak for itself is understandable.
Some athletes are able to make it on their own merits. Patrick Mahomes possessed the skill set and general understanding to be a successful quarterback in 2018, even if he didn’t completely understand the Kansas City Chiefs’ playbook. He may not have been the player we know today, but he would have made it.
Vick was capable of accomplishing the same thing, particularly in his peak. When he founded the club in 2006, he became the first quarterback in NFL history to run for 1,000 yards in a season. Atlanta built their offense around him, and in his six years as quarterback, the Falcons reached the playoffs twice.
Vick’s musings on what could have been if he had studied more offer an intriguing what-if scenario. He completed 53.8 percent of his throws over his six seasons with the Falcons. One can only speculate if he would have had greater completion percentages — and therefore won more games — if he had a better understanding of the playbook.
In a 27-10 defeat against Donovan McNabb and the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2004 NFC Championship Game, Vick completed 11 of 24 passes for 136 yards and an interception. Would the Falcons have been a better team, or perhaps a winner, if he had completed more passes? It’s a difficult question, but one that’s fair in light of his remarks.
When Vick joined the Eagles, he gradually altered his habits.
When Vick was released from jail in 2009, he joined the Eagles as Donavan McNabb’s backup quarterback. Few could have predicted that the former Falcons great would resurrect his career and begin the process of rebuilding his reputation at the moment.
