In 2020, the Last Dance docuseries on Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls swept the globe. It enabled elder basketball fans to relive Jordan’s golden days while also providing a short history lesson to the younger audience.
It did, however, catch MJ off surprise, albeit in a nice way. The guy himself acknowledged in a recent interview that he’s still astonished by how people responded to the documentary, and he explained why.
‘The Last Dance’ was a worldwide sensation in 2020.
The Last Dance docuseries became a huge success in 2020, thanks to Michael Jordan’s legendary Bulls legacy and the COVID-19 epidemic that paused the sports world.
According to Variety, it averaged 5.6 million viewers each episode over the course of its ten installments, making it the most-watched ESPN documentary of all time.
Overall, The Last Dance gave fans a glimpse at many of the characters that helped make the Bulls so successful, including Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, Phil Jackson, and even former Bulls general manager Jerry Krause. Even though the filmmakers didn’t always portray them in the greatest light, we learnt more about each of them and the roles they played in making the dynasty as powerful as it was.
We did, however, get an intimate peek at Jordan’s unwavering work ethic and mindset. He went to any length to win and wanted to be the best player he could be in the process, which he undoubtedly was.
However, MJ was concerned that he might be misinterpreted heading into the series.

Although The Last Dance first broadcast over a year ago, it has now been entrenched in the NBA’s culture. Of course, LeBron James has been compared to Jordan in the past, but so have guys like Kevin Durant.
Despite the fact that it has been a long time since it aired, Jordan recently said that he is still astonished by the fan response.
Jordan stated on the Oct. 11 edition of Today, “I always felt people wouldn’t understand my love for the game, my desire for winning.”
MJ also discussed how the series altered the public’s perception of him.
“I believe they saw my drive to win on a regular basis,” Jordan added. “And since my passion was tremendous, every time I walked on the court, I represented my family, the Chicago Bulls, and the NBA.”
Maybe the Hall of Famer believed his actions would make fans think he was a jerk, but The Last Dance just added to his legend. He became one of the best basketball players of all time because of his attitude.
Michael Jordan’s mentality earned him the title of NBA GOAT.
In his career, Michael Jordan did everything it needed to win, as we witnessed in The Last Dance. His Airness had no limits when it came to winning championships, whether it was by making up false beefs in his mind for additional motivation or by pushing his colleagues a bit too far.
That mindset also paid off. 14 All-Star appearances, five MVP titles, a Defensive Player of the Year Award, six championships, and six Finals MVPs followed the No. 3 choice in the 1984 draft. He also led the NBA in scoring 10 times and steals three times, and he is sixth all-time in overall points with 32,292, as well as first in career points per game with 30.1.
Some fans may not have agreed with his approach to the game, but no one can deny his accomplishments; Jordan’s résumé is as impressive as anyone’s in NBA history. It took a lot for him to become the NBA’s all-time great, but his mindset was crucial.
Basketball Reference provided the statistics.
