The game is an alien-themed first person shooter that can be played solo or with up to four players. It offers a variety of weapons, upgrades, and perks for both the player and their team.
The aliens fireteam elite reddit is a review of the game, Aliens Fireteam Elite. It’s a bug hunt where players are tasked with finding and killing aliens.
Aliens hasn’t had much success in the game world, apart from a great (but now outdated) coin-op brawler. While Alien Isolation is a fantastic recreation of the original film’s concept and mood, Aliens Colonial Marines has been universally panned for being a clumsy mess. Aliens Fireteam Elite adopts a more cautious approach and benefits as a consequence.
Fireteam Elite is a cooperative third-person shooter in which a group of three marines must complete a series of narrative missions that are highly organized and narrated. There are four campaigns built in, each with four chapters that serve as a best-of tour of the Alien mythos. Once you’ve completed all of them, you’ll be able to play in horde mode, which allows players to forego any kind of narrative in favor of just shooting bugs.
Another Bug Hunt in Aliens: Fireteam Elite
There’s a lot to enjoy about Fireteam for aficionados of the franchise. The graphics are very faithful to the original material. Whether you’re exploring the UAS Endeavor, the marines’ base ship, or skulking through tight passageways on an LV-planet or space station, the game faithfully recreates the original movie’ settings and atmosphere.
The music echoes the theme. There’s never any question that this is an Aliens game, from the ambient station noises, xenomorph cries, and weapon fire sounds to the music. Even the language, which is full of occasionally irritating confidence, is in keeping with the film’s nautical banter. Finally, data packets scattered throughout the levels and conversation with the people you’ll encounter provide a wealth of more Alien world knowledge.
The aliens themselves are also fantastic. There are 11 types of aliens, ranging from facehuggers, drones, and fighters to the terrifying Praetorians, who are elite alien soldiers. Several of the players are also new to the game. There’s an acid-spitting distance attacker and another who explodes. As the story develops, non-xenomorph opponents appear (particularly Weyland-Yutani Synthetics, but they don’t have the same terrifying effect as those in Isolation).
Players in Fireteam Elite may create their own marine by customizing their appearance from head to toe. Gunner, the dubious-named demolisher, technician, doc, and recon are the other five classes. Each one has its unique set of powers, bonuses, and inventory. The option to swap between classes outside of a task is a much-appreciated feature. As a result, you can quickly determine which playstyle is best for you without having to create a new character.
Your stats increase as you gain experience in any particular class and even with certain weapons. Players may modify their weapons with new modifications and attachments by finding new tech in crates and secret caches throughout missions or earning new things after leveling up. You may install new gear while onboard the Endeavor, or visit the armory to purchase more pieces and cosmetics.
Some of the modifications improve gun range, critical shot probability, and overall damage, while others are simply aesthetic. There are additional bonuses that you may acquire for your marine. Finally, the game includes challenge cards that may be used to establish small performance side objectives throughout a mission (such as “kill 100 opponents with the pistol”) to assist boost XP and cash gains.
So, for the most part, the elements are in place for a good Aliens shooting gallery, and that is usually correct. As long as you keep in mind that, despite the character development, this game is firmly rooted in the mindless shooting end of the spectrum. The action is almost arcade-like in its execution.
For example, the marines can take cover, but it’s largely worthless against aliens that attack you from all sides (and over all surfaces), sit and spit at you, or just wait frozen until you get near. There are moments when the cover mechanism irritates you by trapping you behind cover as a swarm of aliens swarms over you. It’s as though the feature was put in because someone in management claimed all squad shooters required it, rather than considering if the game really needed it.
Cover makes more sense against armed, non-xeno villains, but that isn’t the emphasis of the most of the shooting. Aside from that, the AI as a whole is very poor. Because the game continually respawns the aliens, they can largely get away with being mindless. Aliens emerge from every vent shaft and nook, swarming the walls, floors, and ceilings, ready to devour your crew. They will sometimes simply materialize in front of you, as if by magic.
When you are unable to locate other people to play with, the game will provide you with bots to play with. We can only presume the Colonial Marines’ tech budget was low this fiscal quarter, since these men are mostly ineffective. They’ll at least assault, although ineffectively, and often seem to wait for you to fire before shooting. You could theoretically play the whole campaign with them on casual or normal, but even that would put your patience to the limit.
Finally, shifting the action to a close-quarters third-person camera results in a slew of unfavorable camera angles. When a big alien warrior rams you into a corner or a wall, for example, you’re generally unable to see what’s going on. Thankfully, the tried-and-true motion sensor performs well and is essential for survival.
The Bottom Line on Aliens Fireteam Elite
Pros
- Aliens’ appearance and sound are well captured.
- It’s a lot of fun to slay swarms of xenomorphs with your buddies.
- Character creation and leveling are quite excellent.
Cons
- The state of artificial intelligence is appalling.
- Issues with the camera
- Single-player players will be disappointed.
Aliens Fireteam Elite already has additional narrative missions planned for the future, so the game has a good chance of keeping players interested for a long time. You’ll have a lot more fun if you have bug-hunting friends to play with. Single players, on the other hand, should definitely avoid it.
